Each PPG is targeted at a particular
industrial sector or activity and aims to provide advice on statutory
responsibilities and good environmental practice. As well as being
used by the Agencies staff, the PPGs also function as invaluable sources
of advice for industry and members of the public.
Any notes pointed are to be used as
guidance only and are not intended as an interpretation of the Law.
Users should seek the assistance of their local Environment Agency office
for specific meanings or other help in making decisions regarding absorbent
materials or spill kits.

PPG27 Installation, decommissioning and removal of underground
There is a high risk of pollution during the installation, decommissioning
and removal of underground storage tank (UST) systems. This pollution
prevention guidance covers all USTs, including those containing petroleum,
diesel, fuel oil, aviation fuel, waste oil, domestic heating oil and other
potentially polluting materials such as organic solvents.
